August 2, 1943 - During WWII, a Japanese destroyer rams PT109, the boat commanded by Kennedy. He receives a Purple Heart for saving the crew despite his own serious injuries. November 1946- Is elected to the House of Representatives serving Massachusetts. < b>Fall 1948 - Is diagnosed with Addison's Disease. His condition is kept secret from the public. November 1952 - Iselected to the Senate. 1957 - Wins a Pulitzer Prize for the book Profiles in Courage, an account of men of principle, integrity, and bravery in American politics. September 12, 1953 -Marries Jacqueline Lee Bouvier - daughter Caroline born 11/27/57; son John, Jr. born 11/25/60. November 8, 1960 - Defeats Richard M. Nixon and is elected President. January 20, 1961 -John F. Kennedy is sworn in as President. October 1962 - Signs the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty after the Cuban Missile Crisis takes the world to the brink of nuclear war. November 22, 1963- JFK is assassinated as his motorcade travels through the streets of Dallas, Texas.
